Serving Together…
The Session is the leadership board for the congregation. It’s composed of leaders elected by the congregation. The church’s ongoing work is accomplished by the groups listed below under the leadership of the Session. Take a look below and you’ll get an idea about how we’re structured and we hope you’ll find an area that interests you. There are lots of ways to be involved.
Committees
Mission & Benevolence
Oversees the church’s benevolent giving through special offerings and collections for various causes; Leads the congregation to serve in the community; Organizes our annual Red Cross Blood Drive; and connects us to charitable and service organizations in the community.Worship & Music
Prepares the annual schedule of special worship services; Organizes the congregation’s involvement in the logistics of worship planning and preparation as well as volunteer participation in worship leadership, liturgist training, lay readers, acolytes, etc.Fellowship & Hospitality
Builds community in the congregation through coordinating Sunday refreshments after worship, church suppers, and special events; Manages the relationships with groups who meet at the church.Congregational Care
This group helps to bring the caring and resources of the congregation to the aid of members and our network of connections to other people; Sends care packages to homebound members and college students; Helps keep the staff and members informed about the struggles and joys of the people.Budget & Finance
Oversees the preparation of the annual budget and monitors financial activity across the year; Leads the congregation in the annual stewardship campaign and year-round stewardship education; Establishes and maintains prudent policies and practices of financial management to ensure we make good use of God’s gifts.Christian Education
Oversees the Sunday School program including recruiting volunteer teachers and selecting curricula; Schedules nursery and Children’s Church volunteers; Leads the congregation in learning and growing as disciples.Personnel
Handles the human resources duties and decisions related to church staff and volunteers; Conducts annual evaluations of church staff; and manages decisions about policies related to personnel.Building & Grounds
Manages the maintenance and beautification of the physical plant and property; Maintains a list of reputable vendors and repair workers and oversees their work.Membership
This group works with our outreach to the community and the ministry of invitation; They work with New Member Classes, help maintain the church rolls, and oversee the church’s print materials for visitors as well as our web presence.
Ad Hoc Service Teams
Ushers & Greeters
These volunteers help to welcome visitors and members and address their needs while at the church. They answer questions, help people find their way, and assist distributing the bulletin and collecting the Sunday offering.Sound System Volunteers
We schedule one person from this team to operate the sound board for each service or special event. Training is available for those willing to serve in this area. Don’t worry, you don’t have to be a sound engineer.Spinks-Gurganus Scholarship Committee
We are blessed to have received a substantial gift that established a scholarship fund to assist students from the church in attending higher education. Scholarships are awarded annually by this committee. Contact the church office for more information.Mission Vision Projects Fund Committee
Another important financial gift in the history of the church established the Mission Vision Fund (a.k.a. the MVP Fund). This fund is used for special mission projects on a case-by-case basis and is a way for the Session to support new initiatives or one-time projects that are outside the scope of the church budget.
